The Creator's Purpose: A Model for Creative Workਨਮੂਨਾ

RELATIONSHIP
KEY POINT: God’s purpose in Creation was to reveal Himself so we could have a relationship with Him.
A few blocks from my house is a gelato parlor that has the most amazing flavors and freshly made cones.
But I’m a little hesitant to share this sweet treat shop with you.
Why?
Because I feel like it’s my little secret.
As far as I can tell, most of their business comes from locals who invite their friends. Personally, I think I like it that way.
In fact, when there’s a crowd inside, I find myself slightly annoyed that more people have discovered “my” hidden gem.
You may be wondering how my favorite gelato shop relates to God’s creative purposes.
Well, there are some things in life that we try not to share too openly.
God’s character is not one of them.
God desires to be known because He can’t bless us fully until we know Him fully. His incredible attributes are too good to keep to ourselves.
The first method He chose to make Himself known was the act of creation.
Both Romans 1:20 and Psalms 19 tell us that God’s creation speaks volumes about Him before we ever pick up a Bible.
Just going into nature, walking on the fresh grass, and seeing the infinite varieties of flowers, animals, and geographical features makes us instantly aware of an infinitely creative God.
So, if one of God’s purposes for creating was to make Himself known, what should be our primary motivation when we create?
You guessed it - to make Him known. This opens the door to a deeper and abiding relationship with Him.
Now, let me make this clear.
I’m not saying all creative activities must be Gospel focused and filled with Christian vocabulary.
You don’t have to sign God’s name to your child’s coloring book or make sure every love song you compose has a hallelujah chorus.
Instead, simply recognize that all your creative activities are in some way, shape, or form, pointing to the Creator’s influence and instituted glory.
If you acknowledge Him, and create with a desire to emulate the excellence and Spirit of your Creator, you help to make Him known just by the very act of creating.
He who created you is well able to guide you – if you ask – to create what glorifies Him.
So remember, your purpose in creating anything today is, in part, to make God known.
The more you create with that in mind, the more He will show up in your daily creative work.
ACTION STEPS
Consider how each effort you make in today’s work is actually a reflection of your Heavenly Father. Ask yourself if the way you are working speaks well of Him.
If it doesn’t, ask His forgiveness and start working with a new attitude of gratitude and faithfulness.
