WEEK 3, DAY 6—OBEDIENCE
If a parent instructs a child, that instruction only has an impact if it is obeyed. A parent yelling at a small child not to cross the road in front of a car doesn’t save the child’s life! Instead, the child obeying their parent is what saves their life.
It’s the same in our relationship with God! We can’t just read the Bible and hear from him; we need to apply it, and we apply it by being obedient.
Obedience is not the most attractive or exciting word, but it is a necessary one. Being obedient to God is often challenging, and often not what our flesh wants to do, but it leads to the best version of life. Obedience takes on many different formats! It could mean saying no to drugs or alcohol, stepping out and speaking to someone you don’t usually talk to, being generous to someone you meet, or forgiving someone you don’t want to forgive. It may feel uncomfortable and awkward, but it’s worth it!
Obedience is rooted in trust! When you trust God, you’re able to obey him because even in the moments where you can’t see where he’s taking you, you can trust that he’s taking you somewhere good.
