WEEK 2, DAY 4—I AM NEW
When you accept Jesus, you are made new! You are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). Being “new” in Jesus means you have been re-born into something new. This is why you might have heard the phrase “being born again.”
When we are made new, the old is gone! This means that everything that was a part of the old you that wasn’t Godly can now be gone, as you allow God to change you from the inside out. The old you may have been arrogant, but God can make you humble. The old you may have been fearful and anxious, but God can give you peace and confidence. The old you may have been full of gossip, but God can purify your mind and the way you talk.
As you are changed by God, you begin to lose your taste for the things of the world and develop an appetite for more of God. It’s just like eating healthy versus eating McDonald’s a lot. McDonald’s tastes good, especially if you eat it all the time, but as you eat healthier, you’ll feel better and desire more healthy food.
“But what if I make mistakes and keep sinning?” That’s part of the journey. Life with God is not about perfection, but it is about making progress. When you are made new, you now have the Holy Spirit with you, and the Holy Spirit will help you make changes in your life. With the Holy Spirit’s help, you can say no to sin, resist temptation, and make godly choices.
