Reading: Matthew Chapter 6

Devotional: “…And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.” This is a phrase that, in this specific chapter, is attributed to a few diverse but important disciplines in the life of a true Christian – giving to the needy, prayer and fasting. It is a phrase that both admonishes and encourages us. How come?

Well, we sort of like to impress people around us or our Instagram friends with the good we do to others or with how much and how often we pray and fast. We like it because it is these people that we receive appreciation and encouragement from. However, Jesus is telling us that it is not ok to boast about all these, but instead, it is much preferred to do it all in privacy. Even more so, He ensures us that God doesn’t miss a thing and He will reward it all. He ensures that our treasures are stacked up in the right place and we have no reason to worry.
