En tid etter dette skjedde det at Gud satte Abraham på prøve. Han sa til ham: Abraham! Og han svarte: Ja, her er jeg. Da sa han: Ta nå din sønn, din eneste, ham som du har så kjær, Isak. Dra til Moria-landet og ofre ham der som brennoffer på et av fjellene, som jeg skal si deg. Så sto Abraham tidlig opp om morgenen og lesste på eselet, og tok med seg to av tjenesteguttene, og Isak, sin sønn. Han kløvde ved til brennofferet, og ga seg så på vei til det stedet Gud hadde sagt ham.
