Vanity: A Study in Ecclesiastes

Dag 7 van 12

What does it say? Solomon’s contrasting wisdom and folly led him to conclude that it is better to be wise than foolish, even though life may seem futile. What does it mean? Solomon’s list of “better” things in life may seem puzzling. He concludes that people learn more from adversity than when things go well. Life is unpredictable. At certain times it all seems meaningless. But even if things don’t make sense, it is better to live wisely and righteously than foolishly. After all, the difference between a wise or foolish decision can alter the course of a person’s life. Wisdom provides much-needed strength and protection and offers better results. How should I respond? With all of its difficulties and adversities, life may seem pointless at times. However, everything that happens is under God’s sovereign control. He alone knows what the future holds. That‘s why it is always to our advantage to choose godly wisdom in daily decisions. When faced with a dilemma, the wise choice might not always appeal to you or appear to be the most convenient. But keep in mind that it will be pleasing to God and, therefore, beneficial to you. How can you recognize the wise choice? Look to the infinitely wise One. He will guide you with divine wisdom as you search the Scriptures and pray. Determine today to choose wisdom over foolishness.
