As Jesus helps the disciples through this difficult transition, what promises does he make? How do these promises provide assurance and comfort? Which promise do you need to hold onto today? Think of a friend who needs to hear one of these promises and share it with them.

On the night before his death, when Jesus could have been preoccupied with himself, he takes time to shepherd his friends through the difficult transition of him no longer being together with them physically. He masterfully employs empathy, vision, and assurances to strengthen the disciples' faith. We can learn from him as we seek to care for others in times of uncertainty or difficulty and during our own transitions.
