When God Calls, Do Not Be Afraid – Day 22

Bill Anderson, OMS Global Board Chair

Joshua 1:9 (ESV)

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

God asked Joshua to do what seemed impossible: to lead the Israelites to the Promised Land. On his own, it was impossible for Joshua, but he could do it with God’s presence.

Fear and discouragement are in our nature. When God calls us to serve others, these emotions often accompany one another.

There will be times when the road ahead seems too steep to climb. There will be challenges in our calling that we know we cannot handle on our own. But we can face them boldly because we trust that God is always with us. He will never leave us.

Doubts and fears can distract us from where God wants us to be. When we feel our courage wavering, we must remember God’s promises and faithfulness to us. God’s presence comes with his call.

Be assured that God is helping. Be strong no matter what the situation. Do not be afraid, and do not be discouraged. We know that God will be with us wherever we go.
