Go again, love a woman who is loved by a lover and is committing adultery, just like the love of the LORD for the children of Israel (Hosea 3:1).

How costly is your redemption?

God has an unusual object lesson for Israel. Hosea marries a woman who is unfaithful. The human relationship depicts how Israel left the true God for idols. Graciously the Lord desires to have His chosen people to be reconciled with Him, and this is illustrated through Hosea pursuing Gomer. Through the course of her immorality, the harlot becomes enslaved and needs redemption. Hosea writes, "So I bought her for myself for fifteen shekels of silver, and one and one-half homers of barley" (Hosea 3:2). The combined price of redemption is approximately that for a slave (Exodus 21:32). Jesus has redeemed us as former captives of Satan. "In whom we have redemption through His blood," writes Paul, "the forgiveness of sins" (Colossians 1:14).

Employment Point: Be loyal to Jesus, who redeemed you to Himself.
