Committed to Care Although the exact context is unclear, the point of moral responsibility is clearly evident in this pointed proverb. Those headed for destruction are to be delivered. To plead ignorance does not remove responsibility. Does not God know our hearts? Will He not hold us accountable for the way we failed to care? Sobering questions, indeed! With the blessing of salvation from destruction, of whatever kind, comes the obligation to rescue others. This is particularly true of salvation from eternal separation from God. Who rescued us but someone who himself had been rescued by hearing about the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ? This is why the Apostle Paul wrote, “I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise. So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also” (Rom. 1:14, 15). Sixty-five generations have come and gone since Christ returned to heaven. What can and will we do to reach our generation with the gospel? What can and will I do to “deliver those who are drawn toward death”?
