Worship and Witness Worship and witness flow together. David understood this. In 1 Chronicles 16 David presented a psalm of thanks which was to celebrate the return of the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem. Praise to God for His mighty salvation was to be accompanied by proclamation of this good news among the nations whose gods could not save. A thousand years later in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost, people from many nations heard the hundred and twenty Spirit-filled believers speaking in their own languages “the wonderful works of God” (Acts 2:11). Such powerful praise became the occasion for the Apostle Peter to proclaim salvation through Jesus’ name to those who had come. With worship came witness, and three thousand believed in Jesus the Messiah and were baptized in water and received the Spirit (Acts 2:38–40). As those who have likewise experienced “the wonderful works of God,” let us, like ancient Israel and the hundred and twenty, both “sing to the Lord” and “declare His glory among the nations”!
