What to do at Night

There's something the psalmist understood that most of us miss — the night is not empty. It is full of God if we know how to look.

In Psalm 63, David writes one of the most intimate night prayers in all of Scripture."On my bed, I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night." He didn't wait for the morning to reconnect with God. He reached for God in the dark - something most of us should do in times of uncertainty

Psalm 119:148 takes it further: "My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises." The psalmist is awake — not because of anxiety — but by intention. He has trained himself to use the quiet hours as a time of meditation. The Word of God becomes his companion when sleep won't come. You should do this too

This is a practice, not just a feeling. The psalmist made a decision about what his mind would do in the night. He chose the Word over worry. You can make the same choice tonight and every night.

Reflection: Pick one promise of God that has been meaningful to you recently. When you wake tonight, let that promise — not your problems — be the first thing you turn your mind toward.

Midnight Contemplations

Night often brings quiet, reflection, and sometimes restless thoughts. When the noise of the day fades, our minds replay conversations, worries, and unanswered questions. But Scripture shows that the night can become a powerful moment of communion with God. Midnight Contemplations explores how believers can use the stillness of the night to reflect, pray, meditate on God’s Word, and speak truth to their souls. Through the examples of the psalmists, this devotional invites you to turn late-night thoughts into intentional moments of prayer, worship, and trust in God.
