Day Five: sleepless

Sometimes there are moments in life that don’t feel special until after they’ve passed.

After Jesus rose and ascended to Heaven, the disciples were waiting together for days, praying in an upper room with no idea what exactly was coming next. It probably felt quiet, repetitive, maybe even strange. But when the Spirit came, they realized what those days had been—holy.

Then suddenly, the room filled with the sound of a rushing wind. The promise arrived. The Spirit came. And just like that, one interlude gave way to another: their mission to carry this presence into the world.

That’s how God often works. The moment you think you’ve “arrived” is often just the start of a new chapter. Every ending is another beginning. Every season of waiting becomes preparation for the next.

“On into the night, help me with the waiting,
’Til consolation comes, O Jesus it is You.
Warm this beating heart, the one that You inhabit,
Make me sleepless ’til I find You.”

These lyrics try to say what it means to live awake in faith. It’s not about being restless in fear, but being marked by a holy restlessness for more of Him.

Our worship never stops. So wherever you are, don’t lose hunger for God. There will be a day all the waiting finally ends, but until then, stay in the place of prayer. Keep your eyes open to His presence. Let the sleeplessness of faith lead you deeper into His peace.

Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for meeting me in every season. When one waiting ends and another begins. Keep my heart awake to Your Spirit. Help me to rest in Your presence and still long for more of You. Make me sleepless ’til I find You. Amen.
