The first announcement of Jesus’s identity and purpose is simple yet profound. The angel told Joseph, "You are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins" — Matthew 1:21 NIV. This immediately shifts our focus from holiday tradition to divine intention. Jesus was not born to be a great teacher or a moral example; He was born to be OUR Savior. Our celebration begins with the acknowledgment that we needed rescuing, and He came specifically to accomplish that mission. His birth is the launch of the ultimate rescue plan.
