More Than Words - the Transforming Power of Prayerಮಾದರಿ

Strength from Solitude
I have a friend who often calls me when he is in the middle of doing something else. When it becomes obvious that he is distracted, I say, “It seems like you have something else going on; why don’t you call me back when you aren’t busy?” He is usually apologetic, but I explain to him that it is frustrating to try and have a conversation with someone who isn’t paying attention. Can you imagine what it is like for God when we are attempting to pray, but our mind keeps getting distracted by other thoughts? It is important that we schedule our quiet time with the Lord when we can totally focus on Him. I always try to start my day with Bible reading and prayer. In the morning, I am full of energy, and I can focus better before I begin the “busyness” of the day.
There are many instances in the Bible when the Lord had to “withdraw from the crowds” so He could focus on God the Father. He usually escaped to the mountains or a desolate place where He could totally focus. The timing of these escapes is also interesting. He usually felt the need to get alone with His heavenly Father right after he had performed a miracle. In the case of today’s Bible reading, He had just healed a person with leprosy (Luke 5:15-16 NIV) and He had fed five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish (Matthew 14:22-23 NIV). In my life, I have found that when God does something really important, the enemy likes to come in and cause me to doubt what happened. Jesus knew that in those times it was important to draw close to God.
Jesus lived a perfect life. He came to earth to show us God in the flesh. He also came to be a shining example of what we should strive to become. We need to follow His practice of spending quiet time with the heavenly Father each and every day. Then, we can gain His strength and His wisdom to face the challenges of the day.
Ask Yourself:
Am I really spending quality time with God every day? Am I able to completely focus my attention on Him?
