How’s Your Prayer Time?

If you’re like me, prayer, at times, can become a struggle. I have stopped to sit and reflect on my own prayer life and realized that often my prayer life falls short of the amount of time and the quality of time I know I should commit. When this happens, sometimes I go back to the basics. I use the acronym ACTS to help create a structure to help me stay on track.

The A stands for Adoration. It’s giving God praise. It’s starting your prayer time with just thanking God for who he is, not necessarily what he’s done for you. Give him praise for just being God.

The C stands for Confession. You basically sin every day. There’s always something that you mess up on, and it’s so important to take time to ask God for forgiveness for the things you’ve done wrong. You need to ask him to give you the power, the strength, and the encouragement to move forward and not do it again.

The T stands for Thanksgiving. That’s the time to thank the Lord for whatever He’s done for you, no matter how small. It may be something specific in your family. It may be meeting your financial needs. It may be just the awesomeness of the life that He’s given you.

And finally, S stands for Supplication. This is where you take time to ask God for your daily needs and just share with Him your heart. Share the things that are troubling you, the things that you need Him to do for you, and believe He’ll do them.

I encourage you to use this ACTS prayer method. It’s a great tool to practice learning the foundations of prayer. And as you do it, I think it will help with the structure you need to be more effective during your prayer time.

Ask Yourself:

How will I improve my prayer life?

More Than Words - the Transforming Power of Prayer

Prayer is more than asking—it’s how we draw near to God, hear His voice, and walk in His peace. Over 14 days, you’ll learn to pray continually, approach God boldly, build a daily rhythm of solitude, use the ACTS framework, praise through pain, “pray your day,” seek wise agreement with others, and trust Jesus with every decision. Come closer as a friend of God—and be changed from the inside out.
