The Greatest Comeback

On April 10th, 1982, the Los Angeles Kings did the unimaginable. Known as the Miracle on Manchester, the Los Angeles Kings came back from a five-goal deficit to defeat the Edmonton Oilers 6-5 in overtime during their playoff run. Entering the third period, the Kings were down 5 to 0. While the Kings may have felt defeated, they never lost hope. Resurrected back to life, the Los Angeles Kings scored five unanswered goals in the third period, forcing overtime, where they ultimately ended up claiming the victory and etching their names as a team to pull off one of the greatest comebacks in sports history.

Significantly enough, Easter Sunday was the next morning on April 11th, 1982. While the Los Angeles Kings may have pulled off the greatest comeback in sports history, there is an even greater comeback that we celebrate on Easter. While coming back from a five-goal deficit is quite the feat, there is nothing comparable to Jesus being resurrected back to life, conquering death, and rising from the grave. Just like the Kings never lost hope and clawed their way back to victory, when we put our trust and faith in Jesus, we too have hope for eternal life with our Father in heaven.

Remember that you have a God who loves you. While you, too, may feel defeated, never give up hope, for we have a God who is always with us.

  • Reflect on the two verses. How amazing is it to know that His spirit lives in us and we have access to it?
  • Spend some time to thank God for all that he has done for you in your life. If you have not turned your life over to the Lord, I encourage you to submit to Him, ask for the forgiveness of your sins, and let him be the leader of your life (Acts 2:38).
