MERCIES NEW EVERY MORNING
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV
If you prayed a prayer asking God to forgive you and emptied your heart before Him with sincerity, I assure you that God has forgiven your sin and erased it clean. This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
· "I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins.” Isaiah 43:25 ESV
· "For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.” Hebrews 8:12 ESV
· Then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” Hebrews 10:17 ESV
· “Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.” Acts 3:19 ESV
· “As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:12 ESV
And there you have it; we serve such a loving God. Sometimes, we humans do not forget offenses. They say they have forgiven, but in the moment of a heated argument, they have been known to bring them up against us. Not our God; his grace is perfect.
Does this give us the right to keep on sinning because we know God will forgive if we go before Him with deep remorse? Absolutely not. However, if we slip up from time to time, we should run as fast as we can to His mercy seat.
I love the deep thought of Mark Twain when he said, “Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it.” Think about this—the fragrance of forgiveness! I imagine the aroma would be like that of fresh rain. A pouring out, a cleansing!
Prayer: Lord, God, how beautiful that You are willing to forgive freely that of a true repentant heart. How freeing, God, that You not only show mercy through forgiveness, but You erase the sin from Your mind and forget it. You have the power to make us squeaky clean within, so that when that new page is turned from the old to the new, we can walk forward with boldness to follow after You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen

Many churches fill their pews at Easter and Christmas. In Old Testament days, only the priest could enter the inner court once a year, but under the New Covenant, Jesus beckons us to visit Him daily. How would you feel if your closest loved ones only showed up twice a year? This 3-day journey, I pray, will nudge your spirit to invite God into a daily walk!
