Without Measureಮಾದರಿ

From the very beginning, we see God's abundance on display; His generosity in motion, pouring out on all of creation.

The opening scenes of Genesis tell of God declaring that He has given every plant yielding seed that is upon the face of the earth and every tree with seed in its fruit. To every beast, every bird, everything that creeps, everything that has breath, God has given food. Every, every, every! It couldn’t be clearer – this God who spoke creation into a glorious, breath-taking existence is generous without measure. And, His ways are thorough. He’s thought of it all. His image bearers need only to enjoy the bounty and partner with Him to steward the beauty and keep it multiplying.

The author of Genesis is laying a significant foundation with this truth – the One True God, Maker of heaven and earth, is different from any other god. He is lavish. He gives, gives, gives. He doesn’t withhold like a miserly ruler, scheming to exploit and demand payment. His creation doesn’t owe Him anything. He desires only their faithful, trusting obedience and abiding company.

And, not only did God provide all that is needed for His creation to flourish, but also, God went so far as to promise future abundance through seed – an abundance that multiplies! It’s like He is saying, “You have everything you could ever want or need, and it’s all going to keep coming. You never have to worry.”

We even see Jesus speak to this reality during His earthly ministry. He encourages the crowds to consider the birds and to trust that if God cares and provides for the birds, then certainly He is going to care for those He has made in His very image.

There was never any reason for Adam and Eve to doubt that there would always be enough, but God promised future abundance anyway. Humanity was formed into a place of plenty, not having tasted of want or scarcity. It would have to take a deceiver to introduce the idea that God was not as generous as Adam and Eve knew Him to be. Can you imagine the beauty on display and how joyful God must have been to show Adam and Eve all that He had made for them to enjoy and steward? Picture God touring Adam and Eve around the garden, pointing out all the unending goodness they get to partake in.

Where is God’s goodness around you? What might He want to point out to you? Ask God to give you eyes to see His abundance today.

Are there ways you slip into a scarcity mentality, forgetting that the God you belong to owns it all? Ask Holy Spirit to search your heart for any areas where you fear you won’t have enough.

Bring whatever comes up to the Father in honest dialogue. Trust that He is uncovering this belief so that His perfect love can bring fuller healing and freedom.
