This Is The Day

Daily life can be a test of our confidence. Throughout the week, we might win some battles… and will probably lose a few too. We have days where things go to plan and others where it feels we can’t get anything across the line. Some days our relationships with friends, colleagues, and family feel positive and rosy, and on other days we just don’t see eye-to-eye with any of them. All of these things can impact the way we feel when the alarm clock goes off. How did you feel when you woke up this morning?

As believers, we wake up to a great gift every 24 hours: a brand-new day. We’re encouraged in Psalm 118 to rejoice and be glad in each day because the Lord Himself has made it and given it to us. What’s more, Lamentations 3 speaks of each new day coming with a fresh round of God’s mercy and faithfulness to us. It’s not always easy for us to let go of the things that have irked us, or even the mistakes we’ve made ourselves – but our Father gives us permission to do so and offers us a clean slate each time.

Made a mess of that meeting last week? His grace meets you in this one – so speak with courage, not shame. Snapped at your kids or zoned out on your spouse? Today’s a new day to be present, to listen, to love. Dropped the ball on a deadline or a promise? Own it, learn from it, but don’t let it define you – walk on with humility and hope. God’s mercies are new this morning, and they are enough for what’s ahead. Today is not just another box on the calendar: it’s a divine gift from a loving God.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to fully embrace today, along with its new mercies from You. If there are things that are still lingering on my conscience from yesterday, help me to know that I’m standing in Your grace. If I have anxiety about getting things wrong in the hours ahead, help me to remember that I’m held by Your amazing grace. Allow me to take hold of Your joy as I approach my to-do list and be aware of Your peaceful presence over every interaction. Amen.
