What Does the Bible Say About Video Games?

Key Scripture: “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise.” (Ephesians 5:15)

Do your hobbies glorify God—or distract from Him? Video games aren’t sinful, but they can easily become idols if they rule your time or heart. The real question isn’t about the game—it’s about your posture. Are you putting God first? Are your hobbies keeping you from Scripture, relationships, or rest? Every part of life can be worship, even play, when we keep our hearts centered on Him.

Live It Challenge: Take a 30-minute break from gaming today to read God’s Word. Share the verse that encouraged you with a friend—or post it to encourage others.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Have video games (or another hobby) ever taken priority over your time with God, friends, or rest? What did that season of life look like?
  2. Do you believe your hobbies can be used to glorify God?
  3. How can you tell when something has become an idol in your life?

Additional Scripture:

  • Colossians 3:5
  • Proverbs 4:23
  • Ephesians 5:15-17
