When Favor Feels Like a Threat

David’s victories kept growing. Songs were sung about him. Crowds admired him. And Saul’s heart shrank with insecurity. What should have been an occasion for celebration became an opportunity for comparison. Instead of seeing God’s favor on David as evidence of His abundance, Saul saw it as a threat to his own position.

Here’s the truth: when God pours out His favor on someone else, it will expose the posture of your own heart. Jonathan looked at David and saw a brother. Saul looked at David and saw a rival. Same man. Same favor. Two different responses.

When you see someone else shining, do you grow bitter or grateful? Do you compete or celebrate? If God is truly over all, then another person’s blessing is not your loss. It’s proof of His goodness.

Favor isn’t pie; it can’t run out. There’s enough of it for everyone. The only question is, will you rejoice in it or resent it when you see it in the lives of those around you?
