What are practical things you could do to lighten the burden for someone else who's suffering? Even though they may never ask, when a compassionate idea comes to mind-

Just Do It. Whether it's delivering a warm meal, mowing the lawn, providing a gift card, or praying with them- it's never the wrong time to reach out in kindness.

Let them talk. An encouraging conversation about happier times will not only bring smiles, but will also remind them they are not alone. Consider a blank spiral notebook or a beautiful journal for a thoughtful, yet inexpensive gift.

Ask for help. If your friend seems to be sinking and unable to come up for air, call for help. A pastor, hospice organization or counselor are all good places to start.

Reflect: Is someone coming to mind who could use a little encouragement right now? When you're able, and feeling up to it- just do it! Make the call. Give the gift. Reach out with compassion.
