Romans 3
When None of Us Measure Up
It’s hard to hear that we’re not good enough. From an early age, we’re taught to improve, perform, and measure up. But Paul says something that cuts straight through all of that: “There is no one righteous, not even one.”
This isn’t a light statement—it’s a wake-up call. Without God, none of us are on the right path. “No one understands… all have turned away… their throats are open graves.” It’s a confronting truth, but an essential one.
We’re not a little broken. We’re deeply in need. And that’s not to make us feel hopeless—it’s to prepare us for hope. Because when we admit we can’t fix ourselves, we’re finally ready to receive what only God can give.
This passage doesn’t leave room for spiritual pride or self-help solutions. It shows us that we all stand on the same ground. It’s not about being slightly better than someone else—it’s about being completely lost without grace.
Acknowledging our condition opens the door to real transformation. When we stop trying to be righteous on our own, we’re ready to receive righteousness from God. That’s where the good news begins.
