Romans 4
It Was Always About Relationship
Have you ever felt like life just isn’t fair? You’re doing your best to do the right thing—following the “rules,” keeping your faith steady—and yet, it seems like others who don’t care about God are doing just fine. That same tension filled the air when Paul wrote Romans. You can almost hear the frustration: “We’ve followed the law for generations—and now God’s just giving grace away?”
But Paul reminds us of something powerful: it was never about the rules. It was always about faith.
Jesus often called out the religious leaders of His day—not for a lack of discipline or morality, but for the state of their hearts. He said they looked clean on the outside, like polished cups, but inside they were filthy. Why? Because they were trusting in what they could do rather than what God wanted to do in them.
Paul points to Abraham as our example. What made Abraham righteous wasn’t his ability to keep commandments—it was his faith in the God who keeps His promises. Abraham believed God, even when the promise seemed impossible. And that trust, that relationship, was what set him apart.
We are saved the same way—not by our track record, but by our trust in the finished work of Jesus.
So the question becomes: are you trying to earn something from God, or are you trusting Him completely? Are you doing Christian things to prove something, or are you walking closely with your Father?
God is after your heart—not just your habits.
So today, come back to the heart of it all. Come back to worship. Let your relationship with Jesus go deeper. Invite Him to shape what’s inside you, and trust that His promises still stand.
