The Top 5 Things God Calls You to Steward — and Why Money Comes Last

Epilogue

By now, you’ve seen that Christian stewardship goes far beyond finances. It touches every part of life — from how we share the gospel to how we manage our time.

But this isn’t just a checklist of duties. It’s a picture of what discipleship really looks like. Because stewardship and discipleship are two sides of the same coin.

Discipleship is the call to follow Jesus with your whole life — to learn from Him, become like Him, and help others do the same. Stewardship is how you live that out, day by day. If discipleship is the direction, stewardship is the daily obedience that keeps you walking that way.

Jesus said this:

“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” – Mark 8:34b NIV

That kind of surrender doesn’t stay hidden in your heart. It overflows into your calendar, your relationships, your gifts, your conversations, and even your bank account. Stewardship is the visible evidence of invisible faith.

Some might ask: if God gave humanity the task of caring for creation (Genesis 1:28), why isn’t the environment part of the top five? It’s a fair question. Scripture does affirm our responsibility to tend, guard, and respect the world God made.

But creation care — while deeply important — isn’t a separate category of Christian stewardship. It manifests through the others.

If we truly steward the gospel, we will proclaim Christ as Lord of all creation. If we steward our influence well, we will teach others to value what God has made. If we use our time and gifts wisely, we’ll work toward a healthier world. And if we steward our finances faithfully, we’ll invest in practices and causes that honor creation rather than exploit it.

In other words, stewardship of all creation is integral to faithful discipleship.

So where does this set of readings leave us?

You’ve seen the full picture: the gospel, relationships, time, gifts, and resources. These are the big five. They are the foundation. And together, they form a map for how to live faithfully in a world that desperately needs faithful people.

The goal isn’t balance. It’s surrender. And when stewardship and discipleship walk hand in hand, the result is a life that bears fruit — for today, and for eternity.

So don’t just read these truths. Live them.

And when the Master returns, may He find you faithful. To the point where His message to you is this:

“Well done, good and faithful servant!”

Blessings to you!
