Retirement: Top 5 Challenges in the First Years

DAY 7 OF 7

Retired… But Not Yet Finished

You’ve spent a lifetime building, working, solving, helping, leading. Retirement may have paused your paycheck, but it hasn’t paused your purpose. The truth is, you are not finished. God isn’t done with you yet.

This new season is not a time-out. It’s a fresh assignment. A restart. You’re by no means obsolete, but you are being repositioned. And you’re now freer than ever to say yes to the opportunities God puts before you.

You may never stand on a company stage again. You may never lead another strategy meeting or receive another performance bonus. And that’s OK, because in God’s economy, some of the most lasting work happens in this final stretch. It’s done not for recognition, but out of love and thanksgiving. Acts of service for your King. Not for promotion, but for eternity.

Your pace may shift. Your role may change. But the call to live fruitfully, faithfully, and generously remains.

So, as you look ahead, don’t see this as the end of your usefulness. See it as a holy re-commissioning. Just like Abraham, Moses or others, your latter days can be just as impactful, and maybe even more so than your former ones.

So stay open. Stay expectant. Keep saying yes. Because God is not yet done with you – and He gives you strength to complete that to which He is now calling you:

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” – Philippians 3:12 NIV
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13 NKJV

Retirement isn’t the last chapter—it’s just the next one. Are you ready?

Reflection Questions:

  • What has this series revealed about God’s purpose for this season of your life?
  • What mindset, fear, or comfort do you need to let go of to embrace this “re-commissioning”?
  • How will you take your next step – small or big – toward living fruitfully in retirement?

Prayer:

God, thank You for walking with me through every chapter of my life –including this one. I give You this season with open hands. I trust that You still have plans for me – good ones. Show me where You want me to go, what You want me to do, and how I can reflect Your love to others. I’m not finished. I’m available. And I choose to live this season for Your glory. Amen.
