Day 2 – Follow the Favor
There’s nothing more exciting than beginning to see clear signs that God is opening doors for you. Has this ever happened to you?
Nehemiah clearly understood that to fulfill the dream God had placed in his heart—rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem—he would need the favor of King Artaxerxes, who was the authority he served under, or, as we'd say today, his employer. Although Nehemiah had prayed, fasted, and wept for months, the Bible emphasizes that he never showed his sadness to the king until precisely the right moment (Nehemiah 2:1). Just think about that for a moment: Nehemiah maintained composure and professionalism day after day, despite carrying an enormous burden. How much wisdom and self-control does that take! Often, we must learn to guard our dreams in our hearts until God clearly paves the way for us to reveal them.
When the right moment finally came, Nehemiah found the courage to speak. Even though he wasn't an expert contractor—rather, a cupbearer!—he boldly asked the king for exactly what he needed: letters to safely cross various territories (Nehemiah 2:7), and timber for constructing the walls and even a home for himself (Nehemiah 2:8). Nehemiah didn’t let the fear of appearing overly bold hold him back. He understood that God had opened the door, and it was his moment to confidently step through.
This same principle applies to us. When God wants to accomplish something through you, He will personally open doors. More often than not, the people ready to help you are already present in your life. Isn’t that amazing? When you're in God's will, you don't have to frantically search for new connections or opportunities. God Himself will bring the right people to you.
Remember, God rarely reveals all the details of His plans immediately. If He did, we might either feel overly self-sufficient or completely overwhelmed. Instead, precisely because the dream is bigger than you, God desires for you to continually return to Him for guidance. This dependence on the Lord is actually a precious gift, protecting you from pride and keeping you closely connected to Him, the source of every good thing.
As John the Baptist said, “No one can receive anything unless God gives it from heaven” (John 3:27). God knows every detail, and He knows exactly which resources you'll need to accomplish what He’s placed in your heart. Just as He did with Nehemiah, He will use other people to provide what you need. Your job is to pray, wait discerningly for the right timing, and then courageously follow God’s favor when you see it.
Reflection Questions:
- Take a moment to reflect: who within your current circle may God have positioned to help you with your project? Have you intentionally prayed about this?
- What practical things do you need right now to advance your project? Financial resources, technical knowledge, emotional support? Take a few minutes to make a specific list and begin intentionally praying over each item.
Prayer: Lord, thank You that I'm not alone in the dream You've placed in my heart. Help me clearly discern the opportunities You're opening before me. Give me the courage to ask with confidence and the humility to receive help from those You’ve already positioned along my path. I acknowledge that every good thing comes from You, and today I choose to rely fully on Your favor. Amen.
