Stop Milking It - Wean for the Win!ಮಾದರಿ

Weaners are Winners!
Throughout this plan I want to look at the topic of ‘weaning’ and examine why it’s such an important part of our spiritual lives and our spiritual growth. I pray that as you read on you’ll decide to stop ‘milking it’ so to speak and instead you’ll begin to ‘wean for the win’, embracing the way God might be using weaning as a means of you growing up in him.
Weaning is a topic that’s not often talked about in relation to our spiritual lives, but it has such significance in our relationship with God and our christian maturity. Weaning is not an easy or comfortable experience, it’s often the exact opposite. But if we are attentive to what the Lord is doing throughout the process it can be a time of real growth and transformation. We can come out of the other side of a time of weaning much stronger, closer to God, and having a deeper trust in him. We will also become more mature in our faith and therefore more effective in supporting others. I truly believe that weaners are winners! Just to note here – if you keep thinking of wieners as in German sausages, there’s grace for that – it’s not the wurst thing you could do! Just pull yourself back to the right kind of weaner if your mind starts wandering into hotdog territory!
Firstly, let’s look at the meaning of weaning:
- When food is introduced and milk is withdrawn.
- To accustom someone to manage without something which they have become dependent on.
Over the next couple of days I’m going to give you two examples to illustrate this topic of weaning. One is linked to my daughter – it’s an example of not doing weaning well! Then I’ll share a personal example of mine from the last few years, when I believe I experienced a time of spiritual weaning.
So get yourself ready to stop ‘milking it’ and to wean for the win!
Prayer
God, help me as I go through this devotional plan, to consider this theme of weaning, and to commit to ‘lean into the wean’ in any areas of my life where I have become reliant and dependent on things that I need to let go of to gain more maturity as a believer. Amen.
