Embracing Your Identity as a Daughter of the King Through Infertility

DAY 7 OF 8

Day 7 – Breaking Free from Comparison and People-Pleasing

Devotional:

While on the journey to growing your family, it’s easy to allow comparison and people-pleasing to consume you, especially when you feel like you're falling short or missing out on things others seem to have. It’s easy to look around and wonder why someone else's fertility journey is going smoothly while you are still waiting, or why others seem to have the perfect family while you are struggling. These thoughts can easily paralyze you and steal your joy.

But God calls you to live free from the pressure of measuring your worth by others' approval or performance. Galatians 1:10 asks, “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God?” This is a crucial question for you to ask yourself—are you seeking validation from the world and comparing yourself to others, or are you securing your identity in Christ alone?

When you chase after the approval of others, you lose sight of God's calling for you. Proverbs 29:25 reminds you that seeking the approval of others is dangerous. “It is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you, but if you trust the Lord, you are safe.” Trusting in God’s love for you brings safety and security, free from the approval-seeking trap.

In Colossians 3:23-24, you are reminded, “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” God wants you to focus on pleasing Him, not others. When you ground yourself in His love and remember that you are already fully loved and accepted by Him, you are freed from the need to perform or compare. Your identity is secure in Him.

Ultimately, struggles with comparison, people-pleasing, and performance often come from not fully understanding our identity as daughters of God. When we don’t fully grasp who we are in Christ, it’s easy to seek validation from the world, allowing these struggles to affect how we live. But as a daughter of God, you are already fully loved and accepted. You don’t need to prove your worth to anyone. You are invited to rest in God’s love and seek His approval above all else.

Personal Reflection:
Take a moment to reflect on how comparison, performance, or people-pleasing may have impacted your fertility or motherhood journey. Have you found yourself worrying about what others think or trying to live up to their expectations? Write down the areas in which you desire freedom from these pressures.

Declaration:

  • I will no longer strive for the approval of others but will seek to please God alone.
  • I live to honor the Lord, not to please people.

Activation:
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas where comparison, performance, or people-pleasing has held you back. Repent for seeking the approval of others instead of resting in God's love. Choose today to find freedom from the need to measure up, and instead live fully in the identity God has given you.

Takeaway:
When you understand your identity as God’s daughter, anchored in His love, you break free from the pressures of comparison, performance, and people-pleasing. You are free to live in His approval, secure in who He says you are.
