Friday: Jesus’ Trials and Sacrifice
Good Friday is a day filled with deep sorrow. It’s the day we remember all that Jesus went through for us—His trials, suffering, and ultimate sacrifice. After being betrayed by Judas, Jesus was arrested and went through a series of unfair trials. These trials began at night and continued into the morning. He was taken to the high priest, Caiaphas, and the Jewish leaders, where He was falsely accused and condemned.
Then, He was handed over to the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate. Pilate didn’t find any fault with Jesus, but the angry crowd demanded His death. Jesus was beaten, mocked, and treated with cruelty by the Roman soldiers. Through all of this, Jesus stayed silent, knowing that His mission was to save the world. He was being punished for sins He didn’t commit—sins that we deserve.
As Jesus hung on the cross, He didn’t just experience physical pain. He also took on the weight of all our sins. He cried out in pain, asking why God had turned away from Him. But even in His suffering, He showed love and forgiveness. He asked God to forgive those who were crucifying Him. He promised a place in heaven to a repentant thief. He cared for His mother and made sure she was looked after.
When Jesus died, He fulfilled the prophecy of the Passover lamb, sacrificed for the sins of the people. At 3 p.m., Jesus said, "It is finished." He had done what He came to do—He paid the price for our sins. The veil in the temple was torn, symbolizing that through Jesus’ sacrifice, we now have direct access to God. His death wasn’t the end; it was the beginning of a new way to be forgiven and have eternal life.
Good Friday is a powerful reminder of Jesus' love and faithfulness. He endured so much for us—not because He did anything wrong, but because of our sins. Even though we often fail and turn away from Him, Jesus never gives up on us. He stayed faithful through everything—through betrayal, rejection, and pain. He is the perfect Savior who loves us no matter what.
Like Peter, we often fail and deny Jesus. Like Judas, we turn to sin and stray from Him. But no matter what we do, Jesus remains faithful. He has never abandoned us, never let us down, and never stopped loving us. His love for us is unchanging, and His sacrifice is all we need.
As we reflect on Good Friday, we remember the incredible love Jesus showed by dying for us. His death wasn’t just for the world—it was for each of us. He is always faithful, always loving, and His sacrifice is more than enough. Thank you, Jesus, for being our Savior.
Reflection:
Jesus’ sacrifice on Good Friday is a powerful reminder that, even when we fail, He remains faithful and loves us unconditionally. How does knowing that Jesus never gives up on you change the way you respond to Him?
Prayer
Lord, today we take time aside to recognize Your willingness to suffer for us. Your love was displayed on the cross, and we do not take that for granted. We are in awe of Your marvelous mercy and overwhelmed by Your grace. We love You, Lord. You are worthy to be praised. Amen.
