DEEP ROOTS

If you’re reading this plan, you’ve already expressed a desire to grow spiritually. Good for you! The Bible tells us what we can expect when we grow spiritually:

Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ…(Ephesians 4:14-15 NLT).

Who wants to be more like Christ? I do, and I know you do too! He is our Lord, our Savior, our shining example. He’s never worried or afraid or sick or in lack – I want to live like that, too. It glorifies Him! I want to live a stable, fruitful life, not “tossed and blown” every time a challenge comes along.

There are so many benefits to growing spiritually. When we’re maturing in God, we can navigate life's challenges with faith and power. We have inner peace and walk in our purpose. When we experience spiritual growth, we become much more useful to the kingdom of God and to others. We’re equipped to help and lead and overcome, rather than being spiritual babies that are inconsistent and always need help.

A person who’s growing spiritually puts down deep roots in God so they won’t be shaken. Think about trees with deep roots, for example. They are strong, look good and weather life’s storms without falling. Deep roots help trees find water and nutrients way down in the soil, making them stronger during dry times. Deep roots also keep trees stable, preventing soil erosion and helping other trees grow.

It’s the same for us. Just like deep roots keep a tree stable, a strong spiritual foundation helps us stand firm during tough times – and helps others around us grow too. Deep spiritual roots also help us reflect, be compassionate, and understand ourselves and others better, leading to a more meaningful life.

None of us just naturally grow deeper spiritual roots – it takes patient, daily effort. It takes clear focus and commitment to God and His Word, so you can continuously grow in reflecting His character more and more.
