RHODA as a Guiding Star

DAY 6 OF 7

OTHER GREAT SERVANTS - WHO SERVED DILIGENTLY!

Onesimus (Philemon 1:8-16)

Role: Slave
Key Verse: “Perhaps the reason he was separated from you for a little while was that you might have him back forever—no longer as a slave, but better than a slave, as a dear brother.” (Philemon 1:15-16)

Significance:
Onesimus was a runaway slave who encountered Paul while he was in prison. Through their interaction, Onesimus became a Christian. Paul sends Onesimus back to his master, Philemon, urging him to receive Onesimus not just as a slave but as a beloved brother in Christ. This story is an example of how salvation can transform relationships, including those between a master and servant.

Application in the Workplace: Onesimus’s transformation from a slave to a brother in Christ challenges traditional power structures. It reminds us that our relationships in the workplace should be defined by love, respect/, and equality in Christ, regardless of social or economic status.

The Servant of Abraham (Genesis 24)

Role: Servant of Abraham
Key Verse: “The servant said, ‘Lord, God of my master Abraham, make me successful today, and show kindness to my master Abraham.’” (Genesis 24:12)

Significance:
The unnamed servant of Abraham was tasked with a crucial responsibility: finding a wife for Isaac. He prayed for God's guidance in this mission and was led directly to Rebekah, whom God had chosen. His prayer for success and his faithfulness in the task shows that even the most mundane duties, like servant responsibilities, can lead to fulfilling God's plan.

Application in the Workplace: This servant's faith in God and his willingness to take on an important yet seemingly ordinary task highlights the importance of working with purpose and prayer. God can use the humblest tasks to fulfill His will.

Closing Discussion

Reflection Questions:

  1. What is one lesson from Rhoda or another servant in the Bible that stood out to you most in this study?
  2. How will you apply the principles of Reliability, Hope, Observance, Dedication, and Alertness to your current life or work situation?
  3. How can we support each other in cultivating these qualities in our daily lives?
