Sexual Purity and Destiny

DAY 3 OF 4

David was a King. The Bible says that when kings went out to war, David remained at home. At that time, any man 20 years and older was required to serve in the army (See Numbers 1:3,45). So, David was at home with the women and the high schoolers when he ought to have been at war. When he was at home, he saw a naked woman from his window. If David had been where he ought to have been, if he were doing what he ought to have been doing, he would be out of trouble’s path. He was not about God’s business when sin struck. If he were out at war as he was meant to be, even a naked woman on the battlefield would not stop him from fighting. Why? Because his life would be at stake! Amidst purpose, all the tempting distractions in the battlefield wouldn’t stop a King fighting for dear life!

David’s purpose required him to be King of Israel. Do your part and do it well. When we are not concerned with purpose, we easily fall into sexual sin. It was a lack of purpose that led King David to fall into sin with Bathsheba, Uriah’s wife. We need to take stock of our resources in order to walk in purpose. Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

What are my spiritual gifts?

What are my natural gifts?

What are my acquired gifts?

What is my passion?

What problems has God led me to solve?

These questions will often help you utilize your resources for God’s purposes and not for sin. When we are not concerned about purpose, we are distracted by pleasure. The countless hours scrolling social media feeds, watching TV, and trying to entertain ourselves could be traps for lust, just like David. But if we are concerned about purpose, the skills we have will be used for God’s glory. Think about this- David was a man of war. Because he was not in purpose, his skills for warcraft were the ones that he used to kill Uriah. When sin has your heart, it will use your resources.

When you read Psalms 139:13-16, it’s intriguing to know that God has a book with your life planned out. He has an ordained schedule for your time here on earth. We know that this ordained schedule is good because he says in Jeremiah 29:11 that the plans he has for our lives are for our prosperity and not for our destruction. God gave you a sovereign will. And in your freedom to choose, you can deviate from God’s intended purposes for your life. Use your resources to pursue purpose not to fund pleasure.
