Sexual Purity and Destiny

DAY 1 OF 4

Joseph, the son of Jacob, is sold into Egypt by his brothers. In the foreign land, he gets a job as a servant. God's favour grants him recognition, and he is esteemed in Potiphar's house. At Potiphar's house, Joseph faces sexual temptation. Mrs. Potiphar wants to commit adultery with him. Joseph flees from her, and it costs him his job. He is framed for rape and thrown into prison.

So far, it seems as if Joseph's life is filled with trouble and nothing good. His decision to honour God with his sexuality brings him trouble. It can feel like that for the follower of Jesus. Your purity can seem to cost you. It can bring rejection and ridicule. But notice what is at stake if Joseph had slept with Mrs. Potiphar.

If Joseph had slept with Mrs. Potiphar, he would never have gone to prison. If he had never gone to prison, he would never have met the cup-bearer. If he had never met the cup-bearer, he would never have been introduced to Pharaoh. If he had never met Pharaoh, he would never have been made Prime Minister of Egypt. And he would never have been used to save the world from famine. And he would probably never have seen his family again. God was raising Joseph to do two things: to save the world from famine and to midwife the birth of the nation of Israel by bringing his family to Egypt. None of these things could have happened if he had slept with Mrs. Potiphar. His refusal to give in to sexual sin in turn, securing his destiny.

God has a destiny for you as well. Pursue purity wholeheartedly. What is at stake is bigger than you imagine. In the end, you will understand that all the pain you went through was orchestrated by God to bring you into a place of destiny.
