5 Steps to 5-Star Evangelism

DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4 — Discipleship: Growing and Helping Others Grow

In today's day and age, one might ask, why aren't most churches growing? It's because most disciples aren't growing and active in their faith. Discipleship is more than learning—it's living. It's walking with Jesus so closely that His ways become our ways, and then helping someone else do the same.

Paul told Timothy to teach others who could teach others also. (2 Timothy 2:2) That's multiplication. The Christian life was never meant to stop with us. We are to be "fishers of men." And our churches are to be like overflowing fisheries.

There are two parts to discipleship.

First to disciple myself. Rarely do people think about this kind of discipleship. But if we will continue to learn, grow and be shaped by the Holy Spirit. He will give us boldness to set a new pace. When we grow closer to God, He leads us to others. An example is that when we get saved, we are not all naturally friendly, we need to learn to smile, begin conversations and value others the way Jesus values us.

Second, we are to help disciple new believers. Let's not overcomplicate this. Sometimes discipleship looks like a coffee conversation, a prayer text, or a verse shared at just the right moment. It's being willing to invest time and love in someone else's spiritual journey.

We grow best when we grow together. As you pour into others, God keeps filling you too. New believers will be discipled and we will return to our first love as we share our faith, it's a win-win!

Reflection: Who could you walk alongside this week—encouraging them, praying for them, or simply being present?
