5 Ways Sacrifice Integrates Faith and Work

DAY 4 OF 5

Sacrifice in The Workplace by Serving Others

Have you ever helped someone out of selfish ambition or vain conceit? The Bible tells us to serve others with humility and to put them above ourselves. This even comes down to talking about ourselves and our own interests. We should rather be listening and asking questions of the other person to better serve their needs.

In the workplace, it’s easy to get caught up in the race for profit, recognition, and success. But true Christ-like sacrifice asks us to pause and see people first. Sacrifice in work looks like serving with humility—choosing to value your clients, employees, and colleagues above your own ambitions. It may also mean holding your tongue when you disagree with your boss's decision, but serving them with love by doing what they asked you to do because you do not have the whole picture.

It may mean giving extra time to listen, offering encouragement instead of criticism, or making a decision that prioritizes people over short-term gain. Each act of service reflects Jesus, who gave everything for us. When we serve others in business, we model His love in a space where competition often overshadows compassion.

Here are some practical tips you can apply:

Today, look for one way you can serve someone in your work—even if it costs you time, energy, or resources. Let your work be a ministry of sacrifice and love.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to see my workplace as a platform to serve others. Teach me to sacrifice selfish ambition and to work with humility. May every decision reflect Your love and point others to You. Amen.
