Don't Let the Bad Days Define You

DAY 2 OF 3

WHEN HOPE STARTS TO WHISPER AGAIN

Naomi is bitter in chapter one, but something shifts by chapter two. A flicker of hope comes back to life.

That’s how hope usually shows up, not through a dramatic rescue, but as a whisper. We see the whisper of hope in so many parts of this story, and maybe the most significant is this: Ruth just so happened to find herself in Boaz’s field. Boaz was not just any man… he was one of the few in the position to redeem and restore what was lost to Naomi. So, when Boaz shows a simple, small act of kindness, it ultimately serves as a reminder that God has not abandoned this family.

Don’t ignore the whispers. They’re often the first signs that your story isn’t over. Naomi thought her whole life was over. The final chapter had been written… But God wasn’t done yet. And that’s true for you too. Even when you feel like there is no way through, God can make a way where there seems to be no way. And when we know our story isn’t over, hope begins to shine through.

When you have hope, you act differently.

Naomi went from numb to planning a future. She told Ruth to wash up, dress up, and get ready. Not because everything was fixed, but because she believed it could be.

So, don’t listen when the world says, “Don’t get your hopes up.”

Because God says, go ahead and get your hopes up, just make sure they’re in Me.

Reflection Question:

  • What small signs of hope might God be showing you?

About this Plan

Don't Let the Bad Days Define You

What do you do when life falls apart and the pain feels too heavy to carry? In this 3-day devotional, Pastor Bobby Harrell walks through the story of Naomi and Ruth to remind us that even when life feels bitter, God is still at work. Your bad days don’t have to define you… because God can take your deepest sorrow and turn it into a story of redemption and hope. If you’ve ever felt like life hit too hard or your story was over, this plan will help you see that God’s not done yet.
