Be Still and Know

DAY 5 OF 5

Changing Yourself

It is not easy, but it is worth it. Life gets better when you learn to listen. The Bible teaches us to listen, and so does my wife.

Now I pause to ask her how her day was and really pay attention to her answer. I try to listen not only to her words but also to her feelings. That change has strengthened our relationship. She is happier, and our home feels more peaceful.

This practice has helped me in many areas of life—with my kids, my parents, my friends, and especially with God. In quiet moments, when I stop talking and start listening, I can feel His voice guiding me.

Jesus often said, “He who has ears, let him hear” (Matthew 11:15). Those words still speak powerfully today. Hearing God requires quieting the noise around us and the noise within us. When we listen, we learn. When we obey, we grow.

Listening is one of the most powerful ways to show love—to God and to others.

Quiet Prayer

God, please help me listen to You and to those around me more. Teach me to quiet my thoughts and open my heart to Your voice. Give me patience to hear before I speak and wisdom to understand before I respond.

Help me notice the needs of others and put them first, just as You put Yourself first for us. Remind me that silence can be holy, that listening can be love, and that stillness can bring peace.

Thank You for always hearing me, even when I fail to hear You. Help me to recognize Your voice in the calm and in the chaos. Teach me to seek You in quiet moments and to carry Your peace into everything I do.

In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
