Zerubbabel

DAY 1 OF 5

Not by might but by His strength

Zerubbabel was an ordinary man called to an extraordinary task: to lead the returned exiles in rebuilding the temple of God. He faced what seemed like impossible obstacles. Mountains of opposition, delays and discouragement towered before him. Yet God’s message was clear: the work would not be completed by human strength, influence, or sheer effort – it would be accomplished by His Spirit.

Zerubbabel’s story reminds us that God often chooses unlikely people to accomplish His greatest purposes. He equips those who are willing to surrender, not those who rely on their own might. What seemed impossible – mountains of challenges – was flattened because God’s Spirit moved through him. The capstone would be brought forth with shouts of ‘Grace, grace to it!’ – a sign that God not only completes the work but fills it with His favour and presence.

Like Zerubbabel, we may face overwhelming tasks or seasons of waiting. God calls us to step forward in faith, trusting His Spirit to guide and empower us. No obstacle is too great when He is at work. Today, remember that your ordinary life can be the stage for extraordinary purposes. Take heart: your mountains may be high, your challenges many, but the Spirit of the living God is greater. Start where you are, lift your eyes, and let God’s grace carry the weight of what seems impossible, trusting that He will bring forth the victory.
