Signal Fire - 1 Thessalonians

DAY 28 OF 29

Pause and Reflect

This week, Paul turned the focus to hope—the kind of hope that looks beyond the present and toward the return of Jesus. He reminded the Thessalonians that death is not the end, that those who belong to Jesus will rise, and that we don’t live in darkness but in light. That perspective changes everything. When we believe the future is secure, we can face today with peace. Paul called the church to stay awake, to be alert, to live as people who know where the story is heading. And he reminded them that joy, prayer, and gratitude are not just feelings—they’re practices that shape us for the long run. Hope doesn’t erase grief or hardship, but it gives us a different lens through which to see them. The Thessalonians needed that reminder, and so do we. Life is often heavy, but hope says the heaviness doesn’t have the last word.

Key Verse:
“For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.” — 1 Thessalonians 4:16

Pause & Reflect:

  • How has remembering the hope of Jesus’ return shifted your perspective this week?
  • Where do you need to bring light into a dark or heavy place?
  • Which practice—rejoicing, praying, or giving thanks—could you lean into more consistently?

Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for the promise that You are coming back. Give me eyes to see beyond today’s struggles and hope for what’s ahead. Help me to live wide awake, bringing light into dark places. Teach me to be joyful, prayerful, and thankful in all things. Amen.

About this Plan

Signal Fire - 1 Thessalonians

"Signal Fire" is a devotional through 1 Thessalonians, showing how our lives are meant to shine as indicators of God’s love. Like a fire seen from a distance, faith that is lived out brings direction, warmth, and hope. Paul celebrates the Thessalonians because their faith, love, and endurance became a signal fire to others, spreading well beyond their city. This devotional invites us to tend the flame God has placed in us, so our everyday lives point people to Jesus and burn brightly with the hope of His return.
