Joy

Joy is a sudden rising,
a heart swelling like dawn
over shadowed hills.

It lifts even in sorrow,
because hope has taken root.
It glimmers in the ordinary,
because God’s presence is near.

Joy is not dependent on ease,
but appears in the fire of trial.
It walks with us in suffering,
yet carries the promise of wholeness.
It is the song beneath grief,
the beauty that breaks through
when all seems lost.

Joy is the fruit we bear
when we glimpse new creation,
breaking in all around us.
