The Ministry Table

DAY 2 OF 30

Keep Moving Forward

Sometimes the best of us feel like giving up after we have been rejected or failed to reach people or accomplish our goals. But in Luke 9, Jesus resolutely planned to go to Jerusalem.

Jerusalem was a spiritual capitol, especially for the Jewish people. Before going to Jerusalem, Jesus planned on stopping in a Samaritan village. Jesus sent messengers ahead of Him to the village to get them ready for His arrival. Yet, the people of the Samaritan village did not welcome Jesus because of where He was headed.

We must accept the fact that some people will not like us and welcome us because of the destiny where we are headed. Don’t change your destination just because some aren’t comfortable with where you are going. My friend, Ed Stetzer, says, “Don’t let the moment you are in pause the mission you are on.” So we have to be committed to continue moving forward.

  • We are called to love people who may not reciprocate that love.
  • We are called to serve people who may not express their gratitude.
  • We are called to give Good News to those who may refuse to listen.

Think about the fact that our reward from God is not based on how others have responded to us, but our faithfulness to what God called us to do.

Did Jesus love the Samaritans? Yes! Did He want to bless them by His visit there? Absolutely. Did they receive Him? No! Did Jesus argue with them and threaten to curse them? No.

How did Jesus respond to this rejection? The Bible simply says that Jesus and His disciples went on to another village. You see, Jesus didn’t allow rejection in one place to stop Him from going to another place where He would perhaps be received.

What we learn from this is that when we fail or are rejected, we simply must muster the strength to move forward to another place. Keep going until you find the audience that is ready to receive you. Never allow the bad in others to stop the good in you! If we do our part, God will do His. Move on to another village. Better awaits. Keep it moving. Go to your destiny!

About this Plan

The Ministry Table

The Ministry Table is a 30-day devotional plan created by and for ministry leaders. Each day, you’ll hear from a different pastor, leader, or ministry practitioner — voices from many churches, traditions, and places — offering encouragement, challenge, and wisdom drawn from their own walk with Jesus. Together, these reflections form a shared table of daily bread: a space where leaders can be fed, strengthened, and reminded that we’re not walking this road alone.
