Awestruck: 30 Days of Wonder in the Bible

DAY 20 OF 30

The day before, thousands had eaten bread multiplied in their hands. They were amazed by the miracle, but Jesus wanted them to see something more.

When He said, "I am the bread of life," many people walked away confused. They wanted physical bread, the kind that fills your stomach.

But Jesus talked about a deeper hunger that no amount of food can satisfy.

We all know that feeling, don't we?

That restless sense that something's missing, even when everything seems fine. We try to fill it with achievements, relationships, experiences, or yes, even food. But the hunger remains.

The crowd reminded Him of how their ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, daily bread God provided from heaven. Jesus agreed—but then He pointed them past the manna to Himself. Our true bread from heaven.

Manna satisfied hunger for a day; Jesus satisfies the soul forever.

Here's the wonder: Jesus doesn't only give what you need. He is what you need. Just as your body craves bread for energy and strength, your soul craves Jesus for real life.

Try this: eat a meal more slowly today. Before you begin, read a single verse and ask Jesus to nourish your soul as the food nourishes your body. With each bite, remember that He satisfies the hunger no earthly bread can touch.

Reflect:

What could it look like to come to Jesus with your soul's hunger today?

Tomorrow we'll meet someone who had given up on healing—until one desperate moment changed everything.
