Giving Challenge

DAY 10 OF 11

Jesus Gives Today

I had a sober realization one day when I was challenged to think about my future, and every single vision I had involved me being more comfortable.

Someday, I will not be so busy.
Someday, I will golf more.
Someday, I will be able to have long conversations with my wife.
Someday, I will have time to work out as I would like.

We spend so much of our lives waiting for “someday.” We think, “I will have peace when my schedule slows down.” Or, “I will be generous when I make more money.” Or, “I will serve when life feels less overwhelming.” But Jesus does not only give in the future. He gives today.

In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus taught us to ask, “Give us today our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11, NIV). He did not say weekly bread or yearly bread, but daily bread. This means God is attentive to what you need right now, not just what you will need later. Every day, he provides enough.

Jesus also reminds us in Matthew 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (NIV). Worry robs us of today’s peace by dragging us into a future we cannot control. God’s gifts are for today. He gives you grace for this moment, strength for this challenge, peace for this storm. Tomorrow’s needs will come with tomorrow’s mercies.

When Jesus gives today, he invites us to live fully in the present. He calls us to see today not as “just another day,” but as a day full of his blessings and opportunities. If we only live for tomorrow, we miss the joy of what God is doing right here and right now.

For he says, ‘In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.’ I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2, NIV).

The best part is that Jesus himself is the gift of today. He is present with you, listening, guiding, and sustaining you. He does not wait for your life to get sorted out. He meets you today, as you are, and offers his presence and provision.

Challenge:
Today, take five minutes to pause and reflect: How has God given to you today? It might be something simple like food, friendship, or peace in a stressful moment. Write it down, thank him for it, and let it remind you that Jesus is giving to you right now.
