PATIENTLY ENDURE AND CLAIM GOD’S PROMISED REWARD
James 1:12 (NLT): "God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him."
Mindful Minute: In the first Chapter of James, he is talking to a group of Jewish believers, telling them that when their faith is tested, to consider it great joy. Verse 3 states, “For you know when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.”
According to verse 12, we understand that patience is needed when we are faced with temptation. We can patiently wait as the temptation processes through our thoughts and the stress of the temptation exits our bodies. We need to be patient as we walk through 30 consecutive days of capturing our thoughts and making them obedient to God and His plan for us.
Life is not easy. It’s not easy for believers, and it’s not easy for unbelievers. The difference for us, as believers, is that we are running this race called life and persevering through temptations. We do this because we know what awaits us is the promise of freedom in Christ (Galatians 5:1) while we are here on earth, and the promise of an eternal life with our Lord and Savior.
Practicing gratitude, prayer, and meditation on His Word each day helps us create new neurological pathways that make it easier to resist temptation as we go through life. We will be rewarded with freedom from the psychological slavery we have been enduring. We will be rewarded with the confidence of our eternal destiny.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your continued instruction to persevere to experience your blessings. I want to live a life of gratitude, always remembering what you suffered for me to have hope in the future. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
