Day 2: I Thought Debt Made Me Disqualified (It Didn’t)

I didn’t just feel buried by the numbers. I felt buried by shame.

I would hear messages about financial wisdom or read scriptures about stewardship, and instead of feeling inspired, I felt disqualified. Like I had missed the boat. Like I was the guy who blew it and should quietly sit in the back row of the “bad with money” club.

Shame is sneaky like that. It doesn’t just point out the mistake—it tries to convince you that the mistake is your identity.

But that’s not how God sees us.

One day, I read Romans 8:1 NLT again—“There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ.”

I’d read it before, but this time it landed differently.

I realized I was walking around with a spiritual name tag that said “failure” when God had already labeled me “forgiven.”

That’s when I stopped seeing myself as a screw-up and started seeing myself as a steward.

A steward isn’t someone who has it all figured out. It’s someone who recognizes that everything belongs to God—and decides to manage it with care.

That mindset shift changed everything for me.

I stopped avoiding the bills. I laid out every debt on the table. I brought it all to God—not with fear, but with surrender. I said, “This is Yours. Show me how to handle it.”

And slowly, I started making progress. Not because I figured out a magic system, but because I finally believed God wasn’t mad at me—He was with me.

Let’s pray:

Lord, Thank You that in Christ, there’s no condemnation—only grace. Help me shift from guilt to stewardship. Show me how to manage what I have today with faith and courage.
