In any story, though, there are also lines between family members that show just how tense Christmastime can be. The main character might be misunderstood or treated poorly due to everyone else's stress. Maybe you can relate — especially when it comes to the rush of the holiday season.

It's so hurtful and exhausting to be misunderstood. The main verse for this week instructs us to be humble and reminds us to be loving, even with the difficult people in our lives. Paul writes to the Ephesians to be completely gentle and humble. Completely?! How is that even possible when no one around you seems to be committed to being humble themselves? Well, that's the thing ... our commitment to humility isn't dependent upon the way others treat us.

We have to remember that being completely gentle and humble is a journey. That's because we aren't naturally either of those things — we learn to be through our relationships with others. Things may get tense, and we may not always know how to display gentleness or humility. That's why it's important to lean on God's ways. And soon enough, the narrative that people have about us just might shift.
