2 Thessalonians 2

The Revelation of the Man of Lawlessness

1 Now we appeal to you, brothers and sisters, regarding the return of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to Him,

2 that you not be easily unsettled in your thinking or thrown into fear, whether by a spiritual claim, by a spoken message, or by a letter alleged to come from us, asserting that the day of the Lord has already arrived.

3 Do not allow anyone to mislead you in any manner, because that day will not occur unless the rebellion comes first and the man of lawlessness is unveiled, the one destined for destruction,

4 who sets himself in opposition and elevates himself above every so-called god or object of worship, to the point that he installs himself in the sanctuary of God, publicly presenting himself as God.

5 Do you not remember that I repeatedly spoke about these matters while I was still with you?

6 And now you know what is presently restraining him, so that he will be revealed at the appointed time.

7 For the hidden force of lawlessness is already at work; only the One who restrains it now will continue to do so until He is removed from the way.

8 Then the lawless one will be openly revealed, whom the Lord will destroy by the breath of His mouth and render powerless by the splendor of His appearing.

9 The coming of this one is in accordance with the activity of Satan, accompanied by every kind of counterfeit power, signs, and deceptive wonders,

10 and by every form of wicked deception directed toward those who are perishing, because they refused to welcome the love of the truth that would have brought them salvation.

11 For this reason, God sends upon them a powerful delusion, so that they will embrace what is false,

12 in order that all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in unrighteousness.

Giving Thanks to God

13 But we must always thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.

14 It was for this very purpose that He called you through our gospel, so that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Encouragement to Stand Resolute

15 Therefore, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold tightly to the teachings you were instructed in, whether conveyed by spoken message or by a letter from us.

Pauline Prayer

16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God our Father, who loved us and graciously granted us eternal encouragement and a good hope,

17 strengthen your hearts and establish you in every good deed and word.
