The Bloodline: Part II
When we open our mouths as Believers, we have the power to bless our homes and future generations. This is the generational shift we need to see in our bloodlines.
We discussed yesterday identifying sin patterns in our family and the importance of breaking these things from our family and children. Part of that breaking process is through holy living, "as for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord." Our children will often duplicate what we have lived in our home. An additional part of that breaking is acknowledging the sins of our ancestors, confessing them, and breaking them. We see biblical precedence of this in Leviticus 26:40-42, exemplifying confession of the sins of one's ancestors. Further, in Daniel 9:4-5 we see a demonstration of Daniel "standing in the gap" and confessing the sins of Israel, similar to us confessing the sins of our fathers.
To be clear, I am not suggesting we must repent of sins we did not commit ourselves, but acknowledging sin in our bloodlines, worship of false gods, rebellion against God, and more, and telling the Lord that we are truly grieved by an ancestor's choice not to serve Him is absolutely in order. Certainly, we are not in some fractured relationship with our Heavenly Father due to our bloodline. No, we have full access through Christ's shed blood. However, there are consequences and impacts from prior generations. Although we are no longer under the Old Testament law, we do identify Kingdom principles by studying the Old Testament. Any unrepentant sin not surrendered to the Lord is always legal ground for the enemy, so it is important to evaluate our bloodline history to assess if there are certain patterns running through our family, such as poverty, racism, abuse, alcoholism, control, anxiety, depression, divorce, abortion, etc. As we see these patterns, through Prayer and reflection, we begin to list them on paper and break them aloud with the power of our mouths. Just as our mouth has the power to curse (which we talked about in week 3 of our time together), our mouth has the power to break the curse and bless future generations.
As the Holy Spirit taught me this through Bible research, I began breaking bloodline curses that eradicate the same cycles that have run in my family from one generation to the next, and the results have been palpable, miraculous, and supernatural.
Sit with the Lord in Prayer and begin to ask Him about the things that have run in your family – sin patterns, disease, mental health challenges, etc. – and use the following sample prayer to break these things off your family:
Sample Bloodline Breaking Prayer:
"I break and release myself from all generational curses, patterns, and influences on my bloodline, both known and unknown, including all oaths, agreements, covenants, and trades made by my ancestors. I serve the Lord alone. I break all bloodline history with all the following, going back 60 generations, including but not limited to: ______________. I am a bloodline breaker through the power of Jesus that resides inside me. In Jesus' Name."
Points to Ponder:
- Take the time to write a list of generational patterns that have run through your bloodlines that have created bondage and pain. Take them before the Lord and break each one aloud through the power of Jesus' name.
- For additional reading on bloodlines, check out Numbers 14:18, Nehemiah 9:1-2, 2 Chronicles 34:19-21, and 2 Chronicles 29:3-11.
